Lizard Ravioli Bento
I started by opening a can of vegetable ravioli, and while it was warming up in the microwave I cut an aubergine (eggplant) and scooped out the middle of it, leaving a tube shape. Then I sliced one edge so that I could unroll it to make a flat oblong shape. Then I got my lizard shape cookie cutter and attempted to cut out the shape. Warning, the skin of the aubergine is quite tough so you might have to use a tea towel between your hand and the cutter so you don’t hurt yourself. Or alternatively you can put it on the floor and stamp on it (kidding – just checking you’re awake hehe!)
Ok then I did the same for the star, with a star shaped cookie cutter on the remaining flat bit of aubergine.
Then I put the shapes into a small frying pan with a little bit of oil and salt and because I use induction it gets pretty hot extremely fast, and I was able to very lightly fry the aubergines just on the “belly” side. Then I put a few spoons of ravioli into one side of the bento box, and some half slices of bread in the other side, and placed the lizard and star on top. i put a cheese spiral skewer on finally to decorate.
I served this to my toddler who ate the ravioli and cheese but left the lizard and star for me. I had this weird feeling when eating the lizard. I actually felt like I was eating a real lizard! It was awesome! And quite salty – so pretty authentic as far as lizards go!
And Aubergines (eggplants) are very closely related to the tobacco plant, and contain traces of nicotine. No wonder I am buzzing right now!!!
Try it, and let me know how it goes! I’m on twitter @bentoboxuk, follow me!
Have a great weekend!

Wow, I love the lizard! He’s great!! I’m allergic to Aubergine (stupid allergies) but he really looks tempting
Thanks Natakiya! I’m glad I found your site this morning! I’ve subscribed and am now following you in Google Reader! Sorry to hear about the Aubergine allergy. I am allergic to blueberries btw
